Ron Waterbury
- Trumpet/Vocals
Years Playing:
I've been playing since I was in elementary school, but didn't get much
professional experience until after I attended college.
Favorite
Trumpet:
I play a Schilke X-3 with a Parke 3C mouthpiece. My flugel is a Yamaha
631. Sometimes I miss my old Bach Strad.
Artists to
Listen to for Inspiration:
The Tower of Power, Seawind, and Phoenix horn sections, Miles, Chet,
Freddie, Maynard, Doc, Arturo, Randy, Marvin, Soloff, and Faddis (among
others...!)
People/Bands
Played With:
I've played with the Geneseo, Nazareth, and RIT jazz ensembles, lots
of pit orchestras for musicals, and the Southern Tier All-Star and Jim
Hynes Big Bands. This is my first "rock" gig.
Claim to
Fame:
I play Jim Hynes' old horn (hoping someday it'll rub off at least a
little!) Had a jingle on the radio once, too!
Approach
to the Music:
Listen, feel the groove, and push the air through the horn!
Comments
on the Me & the Boyz Gig:
Great fun with some talented musicians. The Boyz aren't shy about playing
the fun pop stuff even though we can cut the slickest funk.
Comments
in General:
Come and see us--you won't be disappointed. This is the band that will
get you on your feet and keep you moving!
