Rickey Ellis - Bass/Vocals
Years Playing:
20 years.
Favorite
Bass:
I think I have actually replaced my 1968 Fender Precision with a Michael
Tobias designed Modulus 5-string Genesis. It has a great feel and sound
as well as looking better than my old Fender. I feel guilty, like I
am cheating on my Precision, but needed that low "B" with the Funk of
"Me & The Boyz
Artists to
Listen to for Inspiration:
Pino Pallidino, Mark King, Jaco Pastorius, Paul McCartney
People/Bands
Played With:
Have played with Duke Jupiter, Reporter, The Skycoaster, Top Secret
Claim to
Fame:
Touring and recording with Duke Jupiter. I was in my twenties and felt
like a kid in a candy store.
Approach
to the Music:
Approach the bass as a supporting part of song. Enhancing what the vocals
and lead lines are doing. Not much into the flash style of playing until
the time calls for it. Just as happy playing one note as playing 25
if that is what the groove calls for.
Comments
on the Me & the Boyz Gig:
If it's not fun it is not worth doing. Hence the humor surrounding a
Me & the Boyz show and between all the players. Once again I feel like
that kid in a candy store.
Comments
in General:
If it's worth doing, it is worth doing it right, but enjoying every
minute you are doing it.
